Dr. Nagraj G. Huilgol

World renowned Radiation Oncologist Dr. Nagraj G. Huilgol after graduating from Dharwad University, Karnataka in 1975, decided to take up Radiation Oncology for his post graduation at AIIMS, Delhi in 1980. He then joined Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai as registrar from 1978 -1981. He joined Kidwai Memorial in 1981. When he got the opportunity to set up the radiation oncology centre at Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai, he took up the challenge and never looked back. Starting with Cobalt 60 Theramtron, went up to setting up Dual energy Linear accelerator in 2008.
He is a visionary, voracious reader, excellent orator, researcher at heart and an inspiration to his staff and colleagues. One can debate with Dr. Nagraj on any topic, not just restricted to only oncology.
His achievements are innumerable. He has more than 100 publications in National and International Journals. Dr. Nagraj has visited various parts of India and various countries for invited presentations of his work excellence.
He comes up with exclusive ideas and one example is 'Society for Cancer Research and Communication', founded in 1991. An interdisciplinary society with members from different faculties. SCRAC has published 5 books and one on 'Medical ethics' will soon be published. He does exactly what he believes in. Hence Hyperthermia happened. Hyperthermia machine was donated by Late Prof Sugahara in 2000. Then the Indian Association of Hyperthermic Oncology and Medicine was born.
Dr. Nagraj's hunger for excellence went to create the online journal. 'Journal of Cancer Research and Therapeutics'(JCRT), an official journal of AROI. He is the Chief Editor of JCRT and his quest had brought JCRT to international peer reviewed and pub med index journal. He is also member of editorial boards of Indian Journal of Cancer, Indian Journal of Head and Neck Cancer, International Journal of Hyperthermia an official journal of ASHO, ESHO and NAHO. If you have the right to live with dignity, than you have the right to die with dignity. He firmly believes in this. Today he is the President of 'Society for the Right to Die with Dignity', in India. Affiliations to Indian and International societies are many of this British Scholar. He is holding various posts in various capacities.
Joint Sec. Indian Society of Oncology (ISO), he has been elected Fellow of the Maharashtra Academy of Sciences. He is also a member of American Therapeutic Radiation Oncologist, Radiation Research Society, USA, and European Society for Hyperthermic Oncology. Dr. Nagraj has organized over 20 conferences. He has reviewed many books and is Bombay University examiner for M.Sc. in Biosciences and Medical Physics. He is also an examiner for Biomedical Engineering, at Biomedical Engineering School, IIT, Powai. He is also an examiner for Kerala University.
